There is no substitute for proper training, and anyone seeking formal qualifications or a structured syllabus should look to organisations such as the RYA and their accredited instructors. What I offer is something different. Drawing on 20 years of practical experience working with sailing yachts, I provide relaxed, one-to-one tuition aboard your own boat, tailored to your individual needs, experience and ambitions.

Every owner and every yacht is different. Some people simply want to gain confidence leaving and returning to their berth while others may be preparing for longer passages, learning to handle a new boat or looking to improve their understanding of sail trim. Tuition is shaped around the areas in which you would like guidance, at a pace that suits you.

For many owners, the greatest challenge is not passing an examination but becoming truly comfortable and self reliant onboard their own boat. My aim is to provide practical patient instruction in the environment that matters most: the yacht that you know and sail yourself. Whether you are completely new to ownership or have spent years on the water and simply need and experienced hand alongside, the focus is always on helping you enjoy your boat with greater confidence and piece of mind.

My work is based primarily out of Lymington and Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, although I am happy to consider other areas by prior arrangement. Wherever possible, tuition and support are delivered in a relaxed and practical manner, making the most of the waters and conditions in which you normally sail.

 

It is important to note that at all times the owner remains the legal skipper of the vessel and therefor retains ultimate responsibility for its safe operation, navigation and insurance. My role is to provide guidance, practical assistance and an experienced hand onboard, but responsibility for the vessel and those onboard remains with the owner.
